Furthermore, why do we have terrible relations with Iran?

Because of Israel.

Iran has tried on numerous occasions to improve its relations with the United States in the mid-1990s. It was Bill Clinton who was president at the time, and the Israelis moved in and put the kibosh on it, and then the Israelis are back to bombing Lebanon. Hezbollah said it's going to rearm. Syria is a mess. Iran, the Israelis are talking about going back to try and take us with them.

You had a genocide in Gaza. There's a pause now [no, not really, it's only under the radar] but the Israelis are still cleansing the West Bank.

If the United States was using Israel for its own selfish interests, why do you need a lobby? You only need a lobby because it's It's not in America's interest to have Israel behave the way it does. AIPAC, which is remarkably powerful, works hand in hand with the Israeli government, you know, making or pulling in enough money.

AIPAC will go to enormous lengths to influence Congress, to influence the media, to influence academia. Again, virtually all the senators and all the congresspeople support Israel, hook, line, and sinker, because many of them take money from the lobby. The Israeli government and the lobby together get the United States to do whatever they want.

We support Israel unconditionally, no matter what. Would you have wanted to have good relations with Nazi Germany than in a country that's committing a genocide. Every major human rights group in the world, including B'Tselem, which is the leader in Isral, agree upon that what Isral is doing is a genocide.

One of the main good things about Jewish people is their compassion and their recognition of the humanity of others.

That is no longer the case where Palestinians are concerned, and I think that's a result of the Holocaust. We don't have compassion now for Palestinians. We bear hatred.

Some of the feelings you have about Palestine today and the way Israelis, and I don't say Jews, although there is a conflation in many people's minds of the two terms, and that is the problem.

Zionism is a political creed, Judaism is a faith, a religion and people have muddled them up.

I was utterly appalled by it and particularly by the horror of the October the 7th attack by Hamas but it comes from a context, it's not just out of nothing.

And when I was in Israel I saw how Palestinians were treated. I went to the West Bank, and I went also to Gaza. I've been in Gaza.

In fact, I was stoned in Gaza, and I was stoned because I was the oppressor. But I understood it. I bore no hatred for that. I try not to hate now. It's hard.

Israel is the only country in the world that has a military juvenile detention system for children as young as 12.

Take two kids who live in the West Bank. They're both, say, 12 years old, and they've both been kind of naughty, and they've been throwing stones.

An Israeli kid would be arrested the way our juvenile justice system is supposed to work. The kid gets arrested, he's taken to a juvenile detention center, a court with his parents being present, a lawyer is always present whenever he's questioned.

The other kid is a Palestinian kid whose family has lived in the neighboring village for 10, 15, 20 generations and he's doing the same thing.

What happens to him?

They arrest him at two o'clock in the morning. His parents are not told where he's being taken. He's taken inside Israel, out of the West Bank and again in violation of international law, interrogated in Hebrew, no lawyer, and they are brought to court in a military justice system.

So you have two 12-year-olds doing the same thing and two entirely different systems affecting them. Israel is the only country in the world that has a military juvenile detention system.
